Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge
Physical Educatioin Teacher canidates know and apply discipline- specific and theoretical concepts critical to the development of physically educated individuals.
Element 1.1:
Describe and apply physiological and biomechanical concepts related to skillful movement, physical activity and fitness.
Artifact:
Biomechanics Dartfish project
Date:
Fall 2011
Reflection:
The biomechanics Dartfish project is a great example of element 1.1. This is because it gives me the ability to watch and analyze students skill performance. By using this program I was able to break down frame by frame and analyze what was occurring with the body at that given moment. For the group project that was assigned for our class, I had to investigate how the whole entire body moved while walking. During this project I broke down many critical elements and compared my walking video to the other four members in my group. This was a great experience for me because I had the opportunity to use a different form of technology that many people have not used. This artifact is important because as a physical educator I will be analyzing my student’s movement and this is a great tool it will help me improve and perfect their skill, that I cannot catch while just viewing it in person. I will be able to watch step by step which will give me a better idea of what students will need to work on. Also with this form of technology I am able to take snapshots which I will be able to show my students the correct cues and break down the skill. Dartfish is a great program that can examine the least complex of skill to the most complex of skills.

Element 1.3
Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity and fitness.
Artifact:
Motor Development lab 4
Date:
Spring 2011
Reflection:
Lab four , for Motor Development was to observe how the student at CHAMP interact with one another and to observe what learning stage they were in for throwing a ball overhand. This artifact meets standard one because my goal during this lesson was to observe one student from the class and complete a checklist on how well they were able to throw over hand with different size balls, and to see how well they were able to throw overhand with using balls of different weights. The outcome of the child’s task made me determine whether they were in the initial, elementary, or mature learning stages for this skill. This is important because as an educator I will need to observe and break down student’s skills and in order for them to learn how to perform them correctly. Being able to critique a skill will help me give my student positive reinforcement and positive congruent feedback.
